Overview

SpriteSheep is a full-featured pixel art editor that runs entirely in your browser. It's designed for real production use rather than quick sketches — supporting sprites, animations, tilemaps, layered projects, palettes, and cloud saving with public project sharing(optional).

Features

Drawing & Editing
Pencil (normal and pixel-perfect), spray, eraser, flood fill, line, rectangle, ellipse, blur, text, eyedropper, dither, gradient, and contour tools. Custom brushes supported.

Selection
Marquee, lasso, and magic wand selection with add, subtract, expand, contract, flip, rotate, and scale operations.

Animation
Layers, frames, and a timeline editor. Onion skinning and multiple preview modes included.

Tilemaps
Full tilemap and tileset support with autotiling using industry-standard 47-tile layouts.

Palettes
Custom palette creation and management built into the editor.

Symmetry & Tiling
Mirror modes on X, Y, and both diagonal axes with adjustable positions. Tiled drawing on horizontal and vertical axes.

Layout
Adjustable grids, customizable panel layout, window splitting, draggable panels, and multiple editor themes.


Import & Export

Import: PNG, GIF, video, Aseprite files, tilemaps, palettes
Export: PNG, GIF, Aseprite-compatible files, tilemaps, palettes

Aseprite compatibility is a core focus — you can open and save full Aseprite projects directly in the browser. (Compatibility is still evolving while the editor is in alpha.)


Cloud & Sharing

Projects save to the cloud and are private by default. When you're ready, you can publish them publicly with a description, license, cover image, and metadata. Browse what others have shared on the Explore page.

Status

SpriteSheep is in active alpha — perfectly usable but still needs work. Feedback is very welcome, especially from pixel artists, indie devs, and anyone coming from Aseprite. Things most useful to hear about:

  • Confusing UI or unclear interactions
  • Broken imports or exports
  • Missing editing features
  • Tilemap or animation problems
  • Performance issues
